SEASON2004

See below fixtures for The Jets Championship tilt for 2004.

This season the league ground will be at Macedonia Park, Albert St, off Karrinyup Rd, Stirling.

We look forward to seeing as many of the Jets faithful down over the season as possible for what will be a short-sharp season.

WEEK 1 - Oct 2

Juniors
Vipers def Jets 12-0

Seniors
Jets Vs Giants 2.15pm
Due to the fantastic idea of having the first round on a long weekend, the Jets were unable to have 11 men suited 30 minutes before kickoff, at which stage the Giants required the go no go decision and thus forced the Jets into it's first forfeit ever, even though at kick-off we had 13 people ready to play.

WEEK 2 - Oct 9

Juniors
Jets def Broncos 36-0

Seniors
Steelers vs Jets 6.30pm
Lost 12 - 0, With numbers still down, but more than enough to put last week's embarrassment behind us, the Jets displayed a tradition slow start, due again to lack of people down for the preseason and things having to be worked out on the day. Hopefully the team can turn this around quickly as with only 8 games left from a 10 day season, and sitting at 0 & 2, we can't afford may more loses before we are out of finals contention .

The game was called off just after the start of the 4th quarter after a nasty injured was Andrew "Mumbles" Gillon. A badly dislocated left elbow, which has more than likely ended his season, required ambulance attendance which unfortunately took over 20 minutes to happen. It's a great disappointment to see Mumbles out of action after a great start to the season, and all the boys wish him a speedy recovery.

WEEK 3 - Oct 16

Juniors
Steelers vs Jets 11:15am
Lost 18-0

Seniors
Vipers vs Jets 6.30pm
Lost 8-6 Disappointing not to come away with a win, with only the two point conversion separating the two teams, however a good hit out and plenty of positives to work on as long as we get numbers to training. Best of all unlike last week no serious injuries, which would have been a major blow considering we only had 14 bodies on the field.
We had our chance in the last quarter with a shot at a field goal, however lack of practise caused it not to run a smoothly as it should have, and the shot was blocked.
The boys are looking forward to getting one in the W column this week against the saints.

WEEK 4 - Oct 23

Juniors
No details yet at hand

Seniors
Jets vs Saints 2pm
Jets win 36 - 22. O had a great game and racked up the points. D didn't do bad, but lack of numbers again didn't help. With the saints out numbering the Jets for the first time ever, a 12 all half time score needed the boys to dig in to not allow the saints to come home, and this was done with some left in the tank. Good to get the first W for the season, need to get a few more over the next couple of weeks.

WEEK 5 - Oct 30
Juniors
No details yet at hand

Seniors
Jets vs Broncos 6.30pm
Lost 18-6 Still doing it tough a 14 man Jets squad played hard, but failed to punch home a win. O had some good drives but failed to score till the 4th quarter, and slowness to make necessary adjustments to counter the broncos O kept D from having any impacted till the second half and allowed a couple of unanswered scores in the first.
The big positive out of this game was that despite our low numbers, with only 11 Jets left standing early in the fourth quarter, the larger bronco squad was unable to run over us in the second half, as normally happens with player number mismatches like this, with both teams only scoring once in the second half.
Good signs for the rest of the season but if we were able to try players in the positions that they will play on the weekend, and also practise plays at training, rather than do all this in the first half of a game, who knows what this talented Jets squad can achieve. But, as always, we need numbers at training before we can even start to think of finding out.

WEEK 6 - Nov 6
Juniors
V's Steelers Lost 24-12

Seniors
Steelers vs Jets 2pm
Win 12 - 0 , With a large squealers squad , which was sitting in 1st place, facing up against another 14 man Jets squad, languishing in 5th place, it was a game that those westside buffalo bills would have had down as a win before the first kick-off. But as has happened so many times in the past the boys dug in and the Jets prevailed.
Neither team really dominated but the Jets keep errors to a minimum and really capitalised on any made by the opposition, and this resulted in the O scoring 2 TD's and D held well to bring home the donut.
Sitting at 1 & 4 any win is a good win, but it's always that much more special when it's against those soft cocks in the gold larmay.
The Jets are now sitting in 4th place, be it only by percentage with the vipers also on 2 & 4, but a couple more wins will have the big green bus gaining some much needed momentum at the pointy end of the season.

WEEK 7 - Nov 13
Juniors
V's Vipers Lost 30-06

Seniors
Jets vs Giants 4.15pm
Lost 24-6. A disappointing loss after last weeks win. O failed to fire, and a few picks and a few fumbles didn't help, and D gave up to many yards. The boys will need everything to fall into place over the last few games if we are to make the finals this season.

WEEK 8 - Nov 20
Juniors
V's Broncos won 18-0

Seniors
Vipers vs Jets 2pm
Won 22-14. A real game of attrition that had O get some good scores and give away a couple of easy ones, D hold some great series, score a safety but give up a couple of big plays. In the end though the boys dug deep and put it away when it counted, inside the last minute of the game.
Great to bounce back with a win after last weeks poor performance, and it keeps our finals hopes alive but the next two games are must wins if we want to move into out-right 4th and guarantee a shot at the championship.

WEEK 9 - Nov 27

Juniors
Lost due to forfeit.

Seniors
Jets V's Saints
Won 28-14 - A fired up Jets D came out and didn't give up a first down till the 4th series. The middle part of the game saw the saints 1 man offence fire and drag his team to some yards and a couple of scores, but without any major signs of support from his team mates it was always going to be an up hill struggle. O moved the ball well both on the ground and in the air, had to fight for it but got the 1st downs and scored when it counted. Good job all round.

The Jets season now comes down to 1 game, a win against the broncos will see us finals bound, a loss and it will come down to other result to determine the make up of the top 4, so the boys are fired up to get there on their own terms and stick it to the broncos this weekend. We hope to see as many of the Jets faithful down as possible to cheer the boys on.

WEEK 10 - Dec 4
Jets vs Broncos 2pm
Lost 14-0. The whole team failed to fire in a very lack lustre game. This left the team 4th due to a better head to head record over the vipers, however there will need to be a huge turn around if we are to have any impact in the finals series starting with this weekends game against giants at 6.30pm.

Semi-Finals - Dec 11
Jets vs Giants 6.30pm
Lost 33-22. With an inconstant season behind us, due mainly to lack of numbers, the boys were fired up for a good show in the semi's. The giants got off to a good start however the Jets O fired in the second half and got us within 6 points late in the third. Unfortunately D just couldn't hold the giants and gave them too many scores to give us a chance to win.

A good hard game but always disappointing to not go all the way. The team now looks to the off season with our wind-up function to be held in the new year and the traditional O v's D cricket game, which may be a bit tricky considering just about everyone played both ways, so we'll need as many of you old players down as possible to make sure we keep the rivalry alive.
Then it's on to next season were we need to focus on recruiting some new players and getting a good pre-season behind us with numbers down to training so we can hit the ground running come game 1 of season 2005.

A big thanks to all the boys who played this year, it was a good display of Ironman football highlighted by some great wins throughout the season. To eveyone who assisted down at training again a big thanks all the boys learned a lot. Most importantly however a huge thank you from all the team to everyone who came down to the games throughout the season. It's always great to hear you in the stands cheering the boys on, or sledging the opposition, either way it makes the game worth playing, so we look forward to seeing you all in season 2005.
