Fundraising Jet

Independant Mortgage and Finance Services and Jets lineman Mick Kerr are proud to support Princess Margaret Hospital by participating in the Urban Descent. See the below note detailing how you can help support him in his efforts.

Jets, Once again I have been roped in to help with fundraising, last time it was shaving my head, this time it is jumping off the lighttower at the WACA.

Those of you who know how I feel about heights and strenuous activity will know that this is a major challenge for me, but it is for a great cause, Princess Margaret Hospital has been caring for WA Children for many years and does a great job.

Any Donation you can give will be greatly appreciated and I will make sure I send photos when I jump to show the fear and shock on my face.

For those of you who don’t know the light towers at the WACA get on the internet and have a look.

And I am sorry to say that the pleasure of pushing me off the top has already been taken by my team of brokers who are currently competing with each other for the privilage, (hopefully they will wait until the ropes are attached)

If you have any problems with the donation system let me know and I will correct it.

Details on donating can be found on the website. Simply click on the link below and follow the instructions from there.

My target is to raise $1500 towards the team Visit my Page at http://www.mycause.com.au/IMFSYOUWANTMETOWHAT

I am sure that at some stage, either you or your children have been a well cared for patient at Princess Margaret Hospital or you know someone else that has.

We hope that you can help us raise much needed funds for this worthwhile institution by sponsoring us in this event.

Your donation will help sick kids all over WA, and will also get us ABSEILING over the edge of the light towers at the WACA.

Thanks for your support!!

Thanks
Michael Kerr

UK Jets National Championship Game

Well what can I say we left it late we made it hard but we did it the Coventry Cassidy Jets are National Champions for 2008, we won it in a repeat of last years final against the London Blitz, and with 8 seconds left on the clock we kicked a filed goal to take our first lead of the game and the win 33-32! (We trailed 13-0 and 25-7 during two periods of the game).

We only just snuck through the Semi-Final as well beating the Aztecs 31-28 on the back of a field goal, and that after trailing 13-6 at half time.

Check out the game reports: www.cassidyjets.com

That's it for this Season, I'm off to pastures new will keep you all updated. Good luck for your season lets make it a Jets Double till next time, this is RB22 Lawrence Grugeon AKA Maverick going to the hanger and having some well deserved maintenance.

Jets Finish No.1

Well the regular season is over and the Coventry Jets have finished No.1, Premiership Champions with an 8-0 record and home field advantage in the Semi-final which will be played Sunday 7th September against our hated rivals the Bristol Aztecs a team of which we have never lost to in 4 meetings in the last 3 seasons!

Unfortunately we have not had the best preparation for the playoffs having only played one game in the last two months a 54-0 win over local rivals the Birmingham Bulls. A season already cut short by the pull out of one team was further cut short by the forfeit of two games by the Gateshead Senators Home and Away due to injuries and poor team performance, and with it went my chance to prove myself with some long awaited playing time. It's been a year of frustration for myself having been promentley used on special teams whilst i fully rehab from last seasons injury.

So in two weeks time we host the Bristol Aztecs in an attempt to reach the Seasons Final, Brit Bowl XXII, having never lost to the Aztecs and having already beaten them this season 28-15 on home turf the signs look good, but we wont be taking any chances!

So watch out and keep your fingers crossed as your brother club the Coventry Jets take there chance and head for Glory.

U.K Jets head into mid season Break on Top!

Well we have reached the mid season break hear in surprisingly sunny England and i'm happy to say the Jets are sitting pretty on top of the league at 5-0!
In a season of only 8 games due to the folding of 11 time National Champions London Olympions, we have already secured playoff football, home field advantage and at least the number 1 or 2 spot in the Premiere League, but with only 3 games left in the season and the opposition both propping up the league a perfect season and number one spot is on the cards.

The season Kicked off against our local rivals at home against the Birmingham Bulls of whom we dispatched with a convincing 67-0 victory. Having held a 51-0 lead at half time the starters were rested and i made my come back with a couple of carries late in the 4th quarter, (the legs still sore but getting better with every game). Our second game was another home game and chance for revenge against the team we lost to twice last season once for the league title (28-24) and once for the Bowl (14-6), and revenge we got with a very convincing 41-15 demolition of the 2007 National Champion London Blitz, lofting the Coventry Jets to the status of the Number One Team in Great Britain. Game three was a 6 hour bus journey to Glasgow to face the top team in Scotland the East Kilbride Pirates and in bad weather conditions we triumphed 46-12. Game four saw us meet the team we beat in last years semi-final (14-7) and the 2006 Division one Final (52-20) the Bristol Aztecs and in an ill tempered affair we came out on top once again winning 28-15. Game five had been labeled a Bowl preview with us going against the only other undefeated team in the Premiere League and the 2007 unbeaten Division One Champions the Farnham Knights. With both teams boasting players that had previously played for either club and the Knights also being Quarterbacked by last seasons League MVP and former Jets Starting QB and close friend Tim Spaull this was a game the neutrals flocked to see. Away from home we were still the favorites and after going behind twice (7-0 & 14-8) we held a half time lead of 16-14. After the half our American QB continued to have his worst game yet for us but we still managed to take a 28-15 lead till the final minute of the game until the knights got a late score to make the final score 28-22 in our favour and take us to top of the league going into a three week break. We now face the Gateshead Senators twice whom currently have yet to win a game and the Birmingham Bulls again away from home, and after only making contributions on speacial teams so far I hope to get a few more carries and maybe a score before we hit the playoffs.

So until then be well, train hard and update you all again soon, RB22 Lawrence Grugeon Claremont Jets 2007.

Coventry Jets European Adventure stopped in Austria!

Hi all, first off let me wish you all well and i hope last years walking wounded are all back on there feet and looking forward to another season of Jet football. As for me i made my long awaited return to football last weekend in the Quarterfinals of the Euro Bowl the Champions League of America Football hear in Europe and although we fell to Europe's Number two ranked Team it was a big accomplishment to where we are today considering the club is only 4 years old and now ranked number 9 in Europe.

We started of the season in the group round knowing only two wins out of two would be enough to progress to the knockout stage, a big win against a visiting Spanish team the Valancia Firebats by a score of 36-16 and this after being 0-10 down after the first quarter set us on our way. We then travelled to Norway to fight it out against the much favoured Oslo Vikings the winner would progress to the quarterfinals after Oslo also beat the Firebats the week previous in Spain.

It was a tough game in Oslo but we eventually triumphed 21-13 and booked our place in the quarter finals of the Cup against one of the Tournament favorites the Swarco Tirol Raiders in Innsbruck Austria. The group stage was a few weeks to soon for me to kit up but i made my return in the biggest game an English club has played in 11years and although i only managed a few kick-offs it was good to be back. We stood toe to toe with the Austrians for 3 quarters of football (29-20) but with a smaller squad (27) we ran out of steam and the Raiders took advantage eventually running out winners by a score of 49-20.

So with our European adventure over we turn our heads to the start of our domestic league with the visit of local rivals the Birmingham Bulls. This years only aim is to Top the conference and go one better than last year and win the Bowl. So till then i'll keep you guys posted on the Jets and my own comings and goings.

This is your honoured number 22 signing out and saying, "With no Sacrifice, There comes no Victory"

Big Baz cricket match

The Jets would like to thank the lower Chittering Warriors cricket club and Mr & Mrs McGlew for their hospitably on Sunday 30th September at the Inaugural Big Baz McGlew Memorial Match. Weather conditions conspired to take the event away from the paddock and onto the tennis courts for a classic game of backyard cricket, complete with wheelie bins.

The Warriors won the toss and went in to bat. After a shaky start with a number of ducks whilst they adjusted to the tennis ball / tennis court combo (not to mention Boogie's "bowling") the Warriors settled in to get a good score off their first 10 overs of about 150. The Jets certainly had the advantage in the field with the full squad of 16 taking part, which didn't leave many gaps for the Warriors to aim for. Some nice bowling from Big Linc at the end kept the score from blowing out too much and Boxy managed to talk up his bowling enough that they only took to him on his last couple of balls. Matry also showed us why he should stick to QB.

The Jets opened their innings with Donga and Boogie, and after some nice shots from Donga failed to encourage the Slug to take the first run, Donga just took off screaming, "move you fat bastard" and was subsequently run out.

Bus driver Jnr, Juice and Linc were the only players to trouble the scorer to any great extent with Leo and Linc holding up the end of the innings nicely. Linc even managed to somehow convince the Warriors that even though he was clearly out, he could keep on batting, but even this master stroke of gamesmanship couldn't get the Jets over the line on first innings, which closed with the Jets on about 100, or 50 behind the Warriors.

The Warriors, no doubt sensing the Jets were warming to the task, ignored the chance to enforce the follow on and went in for their second innings. A mid game change of rules from over the fence being "6 and out" to just being "out" hampered their shot makers and they only managed to put on an additional 100, even with the assistance of Mr and Mrs McGlew adding to the batting depth. Mr McGlew particularly showed a keen eye, dispatching a short ball from one of the Jets into Donga's melon, from extremely close range, much to the delight of all. Donga's presence at "stupidly short leg" and running commentary to the effect that if they flogged us we'd remember it next year in the return game of Gridiron may have also helped keep the score down. Big Chris at Ump bowing the odd ball when he felt the bowler was too slow between deliveries also helped add to the confusion and stopped any of the batters from settling in.

The Jets went back in for the last 10 overs in reverse order which sent Linc and Leo in to open. The score ticked along nicely but things really looked up for the Jets when Juice went to the crease as this opened up a spot for scorer which Beno took with glee, and as we learnt from the Jet's V Vets game, when Beno's doing the scoring there's a good chance the we'll be in for a win.

However even this tactical change failed to get us over the line with it coming down to 5 runs off 4 balls and Donga and Boogie falling short by 2 runs, even with Boogie finally taking some singles.

Following the cricket, the boys retired to the Warriors clubrooms, where following a short but dignified trophy presentation, we enjoyed a slap up BBQ, featuring lamb chops provided by Mr McGlew especially for the day, beers, pool, table tennis and some good company.

All in all, it was a great way to remember a great mate and the Jets look forward to hosting the Warriors at our club next year. Other than the obligatory Gridiron (probably flag football) the boys thought a Lawn Bowls challenge might be on the cards.

Thanks to all who participated and a big thanks to Juice from the Jets and Paul from the Warriors for getting this altogether, and Jnr for his bus.

Inaugural Big Baz McGlew Memorial Match

Sunday 30/09/2007 - Lower Chittering Cricket Club

Following the tragic passing of Barry McGlew earlier this year, The Claremont Jets Gridiron Club and the Lower Chittering Cricket Club considered what we, as former team-mates of Barry, might be able to do in recognition of the contribution he made to our clubs and as a way of remembering our friend.

As many would be aware, in addition to being an absolute champion of a bloke, Baz was a stalwart of both the Claremont Jets and the Lower Chittering Cricket Club, selflessly giving his time and energy over a long period to both clubs. Anyone lucky enough to have known Baz would attest to his wholehearted commitment and dedication to his clubs, his team mates and his sport. From a Jets perspective, Baz frequently went above and beyond the call of duty, not just on the field or at training, but behind the scenes, organising things like social events, Jets shirts, hats and other team gear.

In conjunction with the Lower Chittering Cricket Club, the Claremont Jets have organised a social cricket match in order to bring Baz’s friends together for a day to honour our mate. The details of the day are as follows:
Date: Sunday Sept 30th
Location: Lower Chittering Cricket Club
Timing: Arrive at Carnage Park 10am – bus returns to Carnage Park approx 7pm

Format of the day for the Jets
Arrive at Carnage Park at 9.50am
Jets Training Session 10am – 11.20am (we will have a number of very experienced Jets Vets on hand and this will be a fantastic opportunity to run a short, sharp training session in order for the vets to pass on some of their experience to the current crop of Jets)
Board Bus to Lower Chittering 11.30am
Arrive Lower Chittering 12.30pm approx
Cricket starts 1.00pm
Cricket ends 4.00pm approx
Adjourn to the bar 4.01pm
Board Bus for Return to Carnage Park 6pm
Arrive Carnage Park 7pm approx

What to bring
Jets Shirt & Hat
Running Shoes (to play / drink in)
Sunscreen
$ for drinks afterwards

What is being provided
Cricket gear
Return Bus Trip
(you will be required to make a small contribution to the cost of the bus – depending on numbers, this should be between $5 and $10 or thereabouts)

Big thanks to Juice for doing such a great job of getting this off the ground, nice work champ.

Jets v’s Vets 20/20 Cricket match report.

Starting line ups were

Jets – Angus, Rory, Big Chris, Jnr, Princess, Rowdey, Daz, Tom, Ashley, Camo, Jimbo, Marty, Pogo2 and Matt13.

Vets – Krusty, Slider, Flipper, Beefa, Juice, Sam, Boogie, Boxy, Col, Disco, Elvis, Dodsy, Beno and Scrotey. Apologies from Gorag who's currently in the UK and sends his regards and Barge who had a better offer.

Pre match banter suggested a good match was install with Boxy setting the odds at $1.20 for the Vets and the Jets at $3.50 and Angus returning fire by claiming that the only thing that will save the Vets from a thrashing will be the weather.

Jets went into bat first and made a great score of 166 off their 24 overs. Reports have Angus top scoring for the Jets with a score of 108 off 9 deliveries faced! Apparently 9*12 will do it.

The Vets had Newton & Hall open the batting and at the end of their 4 overs the Vets had 50 on the board - it was pretty much over from there with the Vets on 182 at fulltime!

Whilst the Vets were always looking good with Beno doing the scoring, he did state that "the Kids were no real threat and I hardly cheated at all”

So Jets now’s the time to start recruiting for next years game. They only have to suit up for one game this session to be eligible, but be warned Boogie will hit them up for fees if they do so it’s win win for the club really.

The following note came out from Disneywest

"All games for the rest of the season will be held at Ashfield Reserve in Bassendean. Please make sure all players, officials and others (especially Juniors) are informed. Apologies for the short notice of the change but this has been a very frustrating process for everyone involved with a number of third parties having made things very difficult for us. Nevertheless the deal we have now struck with Ashfield is an excellent one and a big thanks to Al for all his efforts. Game times are unchanged. "

Gorilla Removers

A man wakes up one morning to find a gorilla on his roof. So he looks in the yellow pages and sure enough, there's an ad for "Gorilla Removers."
He calls the number, and the gorilla remover says he'll be right over
The gorilla remover arrives, and gets out of his van. He's got a ladder, a baseball bat, a shotgun and a mean old pit bull.
"What are you going to do", the homeowner asks?
"I'm going to put this ladder up against the roof, then I'm going to go up there and knock the gorilla off the roof with this baseball bat. When the gorilla falls off, the pit bull is trained to grab his testicles and not let go. The gorilla will then be subdued enough for me to put him in the cage in the back of the van."
He then hands the shotgun to the homeowner. "What's this for?"
"If the gorilla knocks me off the roof, shoot the dog!"

Results Jets V's Vets cricket game

A great turn out for both the Jet's and Vet's sides saw the game turn into a 13 a side 25/25 game.

The Vets won the toss and chose to bat with the top order of Elvis, Chicken man, Dr Death and Docker all scoring well with both Elvis & Dr Death having to retire at 30. Things slowed down a bit from there. Docker gave Shadow out on a very dubious call and the Catalano clan went head to head with bother Pete claiming the Fishes wicket in the last over. Enough was do however to set a reasonably target of 130.

The big decision for the Vets was who wasn't going to be in slips, which resulted in the unusual tactic of having 9 slips for the first over. This did really reap any major dividens and a more orthodox field was taken for the start of the second over.

The Jets started well however didn't do themselves any favours with their ump's being very trigger happy on their own team and giving two very sus LB's. First was Juice while only on 7 and then his bro Sam was given while on 10.

Things didn't really get much better with lots of low score, Baz & Strapper scoring equal highest on 13. When the Fish was given the ball the to try and regain some family pride on brother Pete the crowd got very vocal. With some very dodge balls early it didn't look like the Fish was going to trouble anyone bar the score keeper trying to keep track of the extras, but he got one on line much to the surprise of the batter which was skyed and taken safely much to Joey's delight to even up the Catalano head to head score line.

After a good effort the Jet's very all bundled out for 95 giving victory to the Vets however it must be said that cricket was the real winner with the fact that by playing Gridiron over the summer keeps us all away from any unsuspecting cricket clubs.

Vets Score Card

Jets feature in Australian Outback win over NZ Ironblacks.

Of the 47 points scored by the Aust Outback , in there 47-2 win over the NZ, Jets had a hand in over half of them. Rory had a good day out scoring 3 TD's for the day, 2 from rushing and 1 reception for Ben. Newton ended up with 2 passing TD's for the day one too Rory and one to another WA rep chaulky from the Broncos. News on Laurie's game is a bit thin on the ground, again, however he did take one reception and I'm sure he let those Kiwis know all about it.
All the best to the lad's for the tilt at the World games which starts on the 14/07/2005 in Duisbury Germany. Check out

The Claremont Jets would like to congratulate Ben Newton, Laurie Webber and Rory Bannon on being selected in the Australian Team to go to Germany in July this year.

By all accounts Rory had a blinder of a tournament at running back at this years nationals, so that cements yet another great defensive player stolen by offence.
Old man Newton set off as head Coach, however with Offensive coach Boxy's disgust with the performance of some soft non Jet QB, his only option was to drag him and sent the Chicken man out to do his stuff. Beefa not only did this well enough to orchestrate yet another come from behind win, as done many a time with the Jets, but get picked for the Oz team. Not bad for a busted arse hack who hasn't played for over 12 months
News of Princess 's tour is a bit thin on the ground, however even if he didn't shine at tight end on the state team I'm sure he would have been picked for his looks alone, cause everyone loves a bit of Sunshine. Love your work big fella.

There's also talk that the league has finally realised what we've known for a long time, the key to success is to emulate the Jets, and are trying to lock in Coaches' Krusty, Chicken and Boxy for up coming national duties. A real bonus for the state team if it comes off so we wish the lads the best if they decide to take up that challenge and look forward to them honing their skills down with the Jets over the next couple of seasons as inexperience in the job will be the main hurdle they will need to overcome.

A MILLION MILES AN HOUR NIGHT
A gambling / gentlemen’s night has been tentatively set for Thursday 15th January 2004, after training. The night is a perfect opportunity to support the club in a fund raising event and build some team spirit in the lead up to the finals series, which we plan to attack at ‘a million miles an hour’. Full details will be posted when they come to hand.

Junior Gridiron
Congratulations and well done on our first official Gridironwest Junior Event held at Tregonning on Sunday 7/12/2003. Well what a day. To all of those that were involved give yourselves all a big pat on the back. Rankings from the day were:
1. Vipers: Won 2, Drew 1
2. Giants: Won 1, Drew 2
3. Stets (Steelers/Jets combined): Won 1, Lost 2
4. Broncos: Drew 1, Lost 2
I think what happened was probably the one the biggest if not the most encouraging events regarding Gridiron in WA to take place in probably the last 8 years. To go from nothing preseason to fielding 4 teams fully kitted and to see some excellent football and exciting games was great to see and a huge reflection of the efforts of all involved.

01/03/2003 O V's D cricket match
In the tradition of seasons past, the Jets played their annual O v D cricket match on the weekend. In 41C temperature, the D won the toss and put O into the field. Donga and Tommy B got the D off to a steady start before the real thrasher's came in. The innings was finished off with Rob Lote the D's top scorer on 49 and Bruiser not out. Highlights were Gerry Matthews in shorts and Bruisers sharp singles.

The O got off to a bad start when Baz was given out LBW off the bowling of Tommy B. It was a good decision on a bad day for umpire 'Boxhead' (he looked like the sun had got to him). The first dismissal brought the old hack Beefa to the crease who immediately started carting the ball all over the field, highlight of Beefa's innings was his run out of opening batsman Boogie (he was stretching for the crease half way down the pitch) and his retirement on 30 runs not out. The rest of O collapsed like a house of cards (or like in this seasons GF). Highlights were Loz emulating his hero and running out Todd and the fielding inspiration on D by Hally. Also Gerry's one handed catch cos he was holding a drink in his other hand. Beefa returned at the end of the innings to remain 30 not out.

D created history winning its second ever cricket match.

A lot of trash talking was given and received, and a good day was had by all. Did I mention how hot it was.

Relay For Life fundraiser.

The Relay For Life is a fundraiser in which teams of 10-15 raise money through different channels and then participate in the actual relay event. Long story short, on the 29th of March, a 24 hour relay begins and each team is responsible for carrying a batton around a track for the full 24 hours. Basically the members of a team take turns running, walking, wobbling, rolling around the track for 24 hours while everyone else hangs out! I went there last year and theres all kinds of things going on during the event. Most teams set up tents and have some sort of team theme - they have a bit of fun!

It's a great opportunity to not only lend a helping hand to cancer research, but also to raise awareness for gridiron in WA! Heck, if nothing else, its a good chance for us to keep in touch during the off season!
Any one who is interested please conact Ed at serrano0007@hotmail.com or 0411-8200-87
This is a great cause and another way to get the Jet's name out there in the public domain so we would love as many of the Jets faithful to get behind this as possiable.
